The Trouser Drafting Workshop

It's time to bridge the gap between ‘I love this garment’ and ‘I can draft it myself.

If your Pinterest board is overflowing with trousers photos, but every time you save new inspiration you think:

“How did they create that leg shape?”

“How would I even draft that?”

“What's happening inside that pocket?”

Then this workshop is for you!

I’ve teamed up with William Gee to bring you this three part workshop, where you’ll learn how to analyse a garment from an inspiration image, break it down into its key design elements, design your own version and then draft the pattern yourself using a trouser block.

No copying. No guesswork. Just clear pattern cutting logic.

Over three evening sessions, you’ll learn and build the skills that you need.

We’ll start by covering some key pattern cutting skills and developing the analytical thinking that you need to read a garment properly: Understanding silhouette, proportion and construction.

Then we'll apply those skills, drafting your own design from a basic trouser block.

By the end of the workshop you’ll leave with a completed trouser pattern and, more importantly, the skills to repeat the process with other designs in the future.

What You’ll Learn

By the end of this three part workshop, you will be able to:

• Analyse a pair of trousers from an photograph

Break down trouser silhouette, proportion and shaping

• Identify possible construction techniques from a photograph

Adapt your trouser block to create new silhouettes and details

• Plan and draft a full trouser draft from your block

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a completed pattern for your trousers and the knowledge to recreate different silhouettes and details.

Instead of asking “How would I make that?”

You’ll start thinking “I know how to draft that.”
