• You’ve learned the basics of pattern cutting, but feel stuck when it comes to creating more complex garments on your own.
• You want to build your confidence in both drafting and sewing, with clear guidance and professional help
• You’ve tried using commercial coat patterns, but they never quite fit right — and you’re ready to create something custom.
• You’ve always wanted to make a trench coat, but the details feel overwhelming and too advanced to tackle alone.
I start every project by gathering images of clothes that I find inspiring or interesting.
It gets my creative juices flowing and allows me to brainstorm and dream up beautiful designs!
Trench Coats is a deep-dive pattern cutting project where you'll learn how to draft, fit, and construct your own fully custom trench coat.
You'll start by creating a coat block (either semi-fitted or oversized) and learn how to shape it to fit perfectly, including sleeve adjustments.
From there, we’ll walk through every classic trench detail: lapels, collar stands, storm flaps, vents, welt pockets, belts, cuff ties, and more.
You’ll also explore how to customise your design with creative options like raglan sleeves or colour blocking. By the end, you’ll have drafted, fitted, and sewn a trench coat that’s completely your own.
